After decades of unwittingly trusting in the theories of others, and chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 2:11), I realized the hole in our hearts can never be completely filled by what the world offers or through my own accomplishments. All led to fleeting peace that are revealed to be bandaids in the end (John 14:27).
So I finally picked up the Bible and directly examined it, cover to cover, to draw my own conclusions and start thinking for myself (Psalm 14:1). Separate from the thoughts and opinions told to me by others (Proverbs 14:12).
I asked God to make His Word "come alive" (Hebrews 4:12) which apparently would happen if you were sincere in seeking (Matthew 7:7) and relentless in asking, believing in your heart (Jeremiah 29:13). Over the course of a few years, that prayer was heard and promise fulfilled and I began to realize how much I had been living for myself while ignoring the Creator God (1 Corinthians 2:14).
And by God's grace the dots have connected, including the blessed assurance of God's revealed salvation plan (Hebrews 5:9) .
If there is one thing I am certain of in life, it is John 3:16.
All the great prophets of old, including Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15) and Isaiah (Isaiah 9:6), along with the Ancient Scriptures accepted widely across major religions, were pointing to One. Through whom the promise of Heaven is guaranteed with absolutely no doubt. Right under my nose for decades, Christ Jesus, whose birth year the entire world still operates on (Matthew 5:17). In reading Jesus' Word and teachings it became clear no man could ever speak such things.
Then I also began to understand the distinction between the religions of "do" (Isaiah 64:6) and the religion of "done". "It is finished", "tetelestai", "paid in full", what I could not do for myself to bribe God to get into Heaven (Deuteronomy 10:17), God did for me and everyone who would believe. God gave me the certainty I could not conjure up myself or find in others (1 Corinthians 1:18).
The point of this life was to discover God, thank God for the life I did not ask for or deserve, love and serve God and others, but also to make sure to receive the gift of everlasting life (John 3:17).
No gift can be received if it is tossed to the side, or left unopened.
If you are reading this right now, I pray that you too may come to "know the truth, and the Truth shall set you free." Nothing could be more important than our permanent, eternal destination. The Scriptures teach us we are body, soul, spirit -- it's no coincidence we too are triune and we are eternal beings (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
When in doubt, follow the narrow path marked by blood (Leviticus 17:11).
One would hardly be willing to sacrifice their own life to save others, if it really came down to it. Talk is cheap. But there is One path marked with the blood of the Savior and true followers, the prophets and martyrs, who have consistently sacrificed their own lives for others (John 8:31).
The calling God has placed in my life, in looking back being able to perceive with newfound and profound revelations, are many. Somehow God ties them altogether (Ephesians 3:20).
If I had to sum up my motto at this time, in particular as an entrepreneur, it would be:
I care about Prophets and Profits.
Remember: wisdom will be proven right by all her children.
May the Lord bless you in reading this (John 5:39).
I’m the founder of Life Changing Labs, a non-profit summer incubator and mentorship network for Cornell entrepreneurs, and head instructor at Life Changing School, a program teaching entrepreneurship and programming to high school students from across the world.
Previously, I worked at Entrepreneurship at Cornell for 10 years and served on the Advisory Council. Along the way, I managed the Cornell University eLab accelerator as its first Assistant Director, and was also named the inaugural Director of eHub, Cornell’s newly established entrepreneurship space for students, faculty, and staff, with 15,000 square feet of facilities at two locations.
Taking everything I’ve learned from these experiences, I currently lead StartupTree as its CEO to help fuel the growth of university entrepreneurship globally. My first venture was a philanthropic apparel brand, Life Changing Apparel, which established its own non-profit arm, Life Changing Foundation, in Haiti.
I’ve been involved with a number of startups as co-founder, operator, or advisor, and mentored hundreds of students over the years. To date, these early stage ventures have collectively raised millions in financing and reached well over millions in run rate.
